As a reporter and editor on the East End for nearly a half century, I have watched a lot of municipal boards at work. Now, I’m on the other side of the dais, with three years under my belt as a North Haven Village trustee.
I’m eager to continue serving my community, where I’ve lived since 1979. I’m seeking another term in the June 17 village election, with first-time candidate Max Rohn as my running mate. We’re both on the North Haven Party line, the same banner that Mayor Chris Fiore and Trustee Dianne Skilbred carry. Deputy Mayor Claas Abraham, of the Hog Neck Party, also supports me and Max.
I favor a collegial, common-sense approach to the issues, especially environmental protection. In 2023, I drafted the code that helps save legacy trees from indiscriminate clearing.
Among a number of village initiatives, I enthusiastically support the village’s unique four-poster deer-feeding program to kill ticks, which Trustee Abraham has managed so well, and further low-key improvements at Lovelady Park.
I favored speed bumps on Sunset Beach Road, the lighting code we adopted in 2022, and speed limit feedback signs, all initiatives of Trustee Abraham, as well as ongoing efforts to reign in the mass and scale of houses on smaller lots.
I’m not afraid to say “no”: I helped nix in the bud a push to allow docks longer than our current 100-foot limit.
I am grateful to the voters for letting me fill one of the Village Board’s five hot seats. I hope they let me continue my service and let Max Rohn — the CEO of Wölffer Vineyard, an impressive candidate and a true gentleman — start his.
