Once again, The Express News Group goes the “sky-is-falling” route between the cuts to libraries [“Institutions React to Federal Cuts to Institute of Museum and Library Services,” 27east.com, April 3] and schools [“Living in Uncertainty: School Administrators Talk Possible Federal Cuts in Midst of Budget Season,” 27east.com, April 14] that will decimate our community.
But, will it?
Just like the beginning of the year, when they needed a hit piece against Donald Trump, they go to the well once again. But, just like the piece on school administrators bracing for ICE invasions at our local schools [“School Officials Are Dealing With Anxieties and Uncertainty When It Comes to New Immigration Policies,” 27east.com, January 22], what happened? Nothing — and that’s the entire point.
Create a scenario where it’s dire consequences and democracy is threatened, and the legacy media takes the bait every time. Creating fear is their protocol — not solutions, just fear.
Our government is a bloated mess, and many cuts are still needed. Elon Musk, who was the darling of the Democrats when he was going to save us from ourselves by eliminating our carbon footprint, is now a pariah to them. The hypocrisy is beyond comical.
This time around, you can’t impeach him, can’t create false narratives, as the majority of Americans are well aware that government no longer serves the people, it serves themselves.
I really laughed at all the old hippies protesting like it was 1969 [“East Hampton and Sag Harbor Take Part in National ‘Hands Off!’ Protests,” 27east.com, April 7], but the Boomers are on their way out and the young Americans are no longer buying that the Democratic Party protects their interests. The party has no leadership and no leader. Resistance is not a platform; it’s just plain nonsense.
If the platform is “men in girls sports should be the norm” and “gang members and illegal aliens need constitutional protection” then keep it up — you’ll never win a national election again. Open borders, continuous wars, chaos and crime along with DEI and antisemitism, and top it off with a candidate who was a word salad of nonsense, and that’s your party.
More and more young Americans now know that the “party of the people” were just lies to hold onto power, and, like the “emperor with no clothes,” reality is now setting in.
