SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — An employee at a business on Bay Street came to police headquarters on Division Street on Saturday afternoon to report that he had been victimized by a phone scam. The man told police that he had received a call from his daughter who reported being contacted by the Atlanta Police Department. The caller identified himself to the man’s daughter as a lieutenant and told the woman that there was a warrant for her arrest for failing to appear in court after being cited for two violations she had been written up for in February of this year. The employee’s daughter was told that she needed to Zelle $300 to take care of the violations and to vacate the warrant. The man complied with the request his daughter had received, then realized that they had not been in Georgia in February and that this was likely a scam. The man said he would contact his bank on Monday and wanted the situation documented by the police.

SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — A Robeson Boulevard resident alerted police late Saturday morning that she had found a small brown and tan dog running loose and had picked it up and taken it to her home. She said she had contacted animal control and that animal control said they would check to see if the dog had a chip inserted so they could locate its owner.

SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — A village resident came to police headquarters on Division Street last Thursday morning to report that she had been a victim of credit card fraud. The woman told police that on April 4 $5,000 was transferred from a credit card account of hers by someone using her credit card information. The address information on the account had been changed by the fraudster to a California address. The woman said she had been in contact with her credit card company, who advised her to document the situation with the police.

SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — Police received a complaint Sunday afternoon that someone was operating a leaf blower on Hampton Street. An officer sent to investigate spoke with the man operating the leaf blower, who said he was not aware such activity was prohibited in the village on Sundays and would immediately stop, which he did. “No further action” was taken the report concludes.

SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — Police received a complaint at around 3 a.m. last Thursday morning that there was a loud car radio in a parked vehicle near the intersection of Division and Rector streets. An officer spoke with the occupant of the vehicle who agreed to turn his radio down, which was done “without incident.”

SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — Sag Harbor Village Police, working with the New York State Police Department’s computer crimes unit, are investigating a series of false alarm 911 phone calls they have received over the past couple of months. Police dispatch received yet another one of these calls, termed “swatting,” last week. As was the case previously, the caller reported a man with a gun in the area of Main Street, who, the caller said, was holding a female hostage. SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — A couple who parked their car on Hampton Street near the elementary school, where they were picking up their child the afternoon of March 25, heard the sound of breaking glass as they walked away from the vehicle, and discovered that someone had smashed their rear passenger window with a rock. The officer who went to investigate was told by a person, apparently employed by the school, that a child had thrown a rock from the playground, causing the damage, and that the school would pay for repairs.
